The best MCP servers for Claude Code are the official servers for the services you already work in: GitHub for code hosting, Playwright or Chrome DevTools for the browser, Context7 for library docs, your database vendor’s server, Sentry for errors, Linear or Atlassian for issues, and Figma for design. Each one is added with a single command from its vendor’s docs, for example:

claude mcp add playwright npx @playwright/mcp@latest

Applies to: Claude Code, docs as of October 2, 2026. Last checked: October 2, 2026.

How this list was picked

Every server below is in the Aftergradient MCP directory and meets two conditions:

  • It is published by the owner of the service it connects to (GitHub, Microsoft, Supabase, Sentry and so on), or it is a widely used open-source server with a public repository.
  • Its own documentation shows how to add it to Claude Code. The command next to each server is copied from that documentation; the link after it goes to the source.

There is no ranking inside a group. Pick the server for the system you use. Anthropic also keeps its own catalog: the Claude Code MCP docs point to the Anthropic Directory and say any remote server listed there can be added with claude mcp add.

Before you add a server

Warning

Anthropic’s MCP docs say to verify you trust each server before connecting it, because servers that fetch external content can expose you to prompt injection risk. The Claude Code security page adds that Anthropic reviews connectors against its listing criteria before adding them to the Anthropic Directory, but does not security-audit or manage any MCP server, and it encourages using servers from providers you trust or writing your own.

What the docs give you to limit that risk:

  1. Pick the scope on purpose. claude mcp add writes to local scope by default (only you, only this project, stored in ~/.claude.json). --scope user makes a server available in all your projects; --scope project writes it to .mcp.json so teammates get it through version control (MCP installation scopes).
  2. Review project servers. In interactive sessions Claude Code asks for approval before it uses project-scoped servers from .mcp.json. The docs note that claude -p runs, Agent SDK sessions and cloud sessions cannot show that prompt and load project-scoped servers without asking; add a server to disabledMcpjsonServers to keep it out in every mode (MCP docs).
  3. Use permission rules for MCP tools. Rules such as mcp__github__get_* allow only matching tools from one server, and a deny rule of "mcp__*" blocks every MCP tool (Configure permissions).
  4. Prefer read-only modes where a server offers them. Linear, Supabase and GitHub all document read-only options (details below).
  5. Keep the list short. The MCP quickstart says each connected server takes some space in the context window, because its tool names and server instructions load into every session.

After adding any server, run claude mcp list in your terminal or /mcp inside a session to check its status and sign in where OAuth is needed (MCP docs).

Code hosting

GitHub MCP Server

GitHub’s own server reads repositories and manages issues, pull requests, Actions runs and security alerts, with toolsets you can switch on or off and a read-only mode (README). GitHub’s Claude install guide gives this command for Claude Code 2.1.1 and newer:

claude mcp add-json github '{"type":"http","url":"https://api.githubcopilot.com/mcp","headers":{"Authorization":"Bearer YOUR_GITHUB_PAT"}}'

The same guide keeps the older claude mcp add --transport http ... form for Windows if add-json returns Invalid input. Anthropic’s MCP docs suggest a fine-grained token limited to the repositories you want Claude to work with. Listing: /mcp-servers/github.

Hugging Face MCP Server

Searches models, datasets, Spaces and papers on the Hugging Face Hub and can call Gradio apps (README):

claude mcp add hf-mcp-server -t http https://huggingface.co/mcp?login

Listing: /mcp-servers/hugging-face.

Browser and testing

Playwright MCP

Microsoft’s server drives a real browser and reads pages through accessibility snapshots instead of screenshots (README):

claude mcp add playwright npx @playwright/mcp@latest

Anthropic’s MCP quickstart uses Playwright as its local-server example and notes it needs Node.js 18 or later. Listing: /mcp-servers/playwright.

Chrome DevTools MCP

Chrome’s server controls a live Chrome instance and exposes DevTools data: network requests, console messages and performance traces. A --slim flag limits it to basic browser tasks (README). From its client configuration guide:

claude mcp add chrome-devtools --scope user npx chrome-devtools-mcp@latest

Listing: /mcp-servers/chrome-devtools.

Docs lookup

Context7

Upstash’s server returns current, version-specific documentation for libraries through two tools, resolve-library-id and query-docs (README). Remote setup from the Context7 client docs:

claude mcp add --scope user --header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY" --transport http context7 https://mcp.context7.com/mcp

The same page gives a local variant (claude mcp add --scope user context7 -- npx -y @upstash/context7-mcp --api-key YOUR_API_KEY) and an OAuth endpoint at /mcp/oauth. Listing: /mcp-servers/context7.

Microsoft Learn MCP Server

Searches and fetches official Microsoft and Azure documentation and code samples. Microsoft says it needs no authentication and there is no charge to use it (overview). The repository README installs it in Claude Code as a plugin that bundles the MCP endpoint and skills:

/plugin install microsoft-docs@claude-plugins-official

Listing: /mcp-servers/microsoft-learn.

Databases

Supabase MCP

Manages Supabase projects: database queries and migrations, Edge Functions, logs and docs search. URL parameters ?project_ref=, ?read_only=true and ?features= scope it down (Supabase docs):

claude mcp add --scope project --transport http supabase "https://mcp.supabase.com/mcp"

Warning

Supabase’s MCP page says connecting an LLM to your Supabase projects carries security risks and links its security best practices to read first.

Listing: /mcp-servers/supabase.

Neon MCP Server

Manages Neon Postgres projects and branches, runs SQL and handles schema migrations. Neon’s README says one command configures the server for Cursor, VS Code and Claude Code, authenticating through OAuth and creating an API key:

npx neon@latest init

Listing: /mcp-servers/neon.

Prisma MCP

Prisma ships a local server for CLI workflows such as migrations and a remote one for Prisma Postgres (Prisma MCP repo):

claude mcp add prisma-local npx prisma mcp
claude mcp add prisma-remote npx mcp-remote https://mcp.prisma.io/mcp

Listing: /mcp-servers/prisma.

MongoDB MCP Server

Queries and manages MongoDB databases and can administer Atlas. MongoDB’s getting-started page recommends plugins for Claude Code; for a self-managed deployment:

/plugin install mongodb@claude-plugins-official

For the Atlas managed server the same page uses /plugin install mongodb-atlas@claude-plugins-official. Listing: /mcp-servers/mongodb.

Other database servers in the directory: MCP Toolbox for Databases (BigQuery, Cloud SQL, AlloyDB, Spanner, Postgres, MySQL and more) and Redis.

Cloud and infrastructure

Vercel MCP

Searches Vercel docs, manages projects and deployments, and reads deployment logs and analytics. Vercel says it only supports AI clients it has reviewed and approved, and Claude Code is on that list (Vercel docs):

claude mcp add --transport http vercel https://mcp.vercel.com

Listing: /mcp-servers/vercel.

Cloudflare API MCP

Covers the Cloudflare API through two tools, search() and execute(); the model writes code that runs in an isolated Worker sandbox (Cloudflare docs). For Claude Code, Cloudflare documents its skills plugin, which bundles its MCP servers:

/plugin marketplace add cloudflare/skills

The same page gives the raw server URL, https://mcp.cloudflare.com/mcp, for any client. Listing: /mcp-servers/cloudflare.

Terraform MCP Server

HashiCorp’s server looks up Terraform Registry providers and modules and, with a token, manages HCP Terraform workspaces (README):

claude mcp add terraform -s user -t stdio -- docker run -i --rm hashicorp/terraform-mcp-server

Listing: /mcp-servers/terraform.

Azure MCP Server

Tools across many Azure services from one local server. The README installs it in Claude Code as a plugin with Azure agents and skills:

/plugin install azure@claude-plugins-official

Listing: /mcp-servers/azure. AWS users can look at the AWS API MCP Server listing.

Issue tracking and team docs

Linear MCP

Finds, creates and updates Linear issues, projects and comments. A separate https://mcp.linear.app/mcp/readonly endpoint exposes only read tools (Linear docs):

claude mcp add --transport http linear-server https://mcp.linear.app/mcp

Then run /mcp in a session to sign in. Listing: /mcp-servers/linear.

Atlassian Rovo MCP Server

Connects to Jira, Confluence and Compass within your existing Atlassian permissions (README):

claude mcp add --transport http atlassian https://mcp.atlassian.com/v2/mcp

Listing: /mcp-servers/atlassian.

Notion MCP

Searches, reads and edits Notion pages and databases. It uses OAuth only and does not accept bearer tokens (Notion docs):

claude mcp add --transport http notion https://mcp.notion.com/mcp

Listing: /mcp-servers/notion.

Observability

Sentry MCP

Gives Claude access to Sentry errors, issues, traces and performance data. All connections use OAuth, and Sentry recommends scoping the URL to a project when possible (Sentry docs):

claude mcp add --transport http sentry https://mcp.sentry.dev/mcp/{organizationSlug}/{projectSlug}

Anthropic’s MCP docs use the unscoped https://mcp.sentry.dev/mcp in their Sentry example. Listing: /mcp-servers/sentry.

Grafana MCP Server

Dashboards, datasource queries (Prometheus, Loki and others), alerts, incidents and OnCall for Grafana 9.0 or later. Its README gives a JSON config rather than a claude mcp add line:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "grafana": {
      "command": "uvx",
      "args": ["mcp-grafana"],
      "env": {
        "GRAFANA_URL": "http://localhost:3000",
        "GRAFANA_SERVICE_ACCOUNT_TOKEN": "<your service account token>"
      }
    }
  }
}

Claude Code reads the same mcpServers structure from a project’s .mcp.json file (MCP docs). Listing: /mcp-servers/grafana.

Design

Figma MCP Server

Brings Figma design context (frames, variables, components, Code Connect) into the agent and can write to Figma and FigJam canvases. Figma’s docs prefer its Claude Code plugin, claude plugin install figma@claude-plugins-official, and give this manual setup (Figma docs):

claude mcp add --transport http figma https://mcp.figma.com/mcp

Listing: /mcp-servers/figma.
