Microsoft’s Playwright MCP server, which drives a real browser for coding agents.
The Playwright MCP server, from Microsoft’s Playwright team, drives a real browser through Playwright and reads pages from accessibility snapshots instead of screenshots. It runs locally over stdio through npx, needs no authentication and is licensed Apache-2.0. Its README shows setup for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Copilot in VS Code, Claude Desktop and Gemini CLI.
Agents navigate, click, type, fill forms, manage tabs and take screenshots, and they read the page through structured accessibility snapshots, so no vision model is needed. It runs over stdio through npx by default and can also serve HTTP on a local port or run in Docker.
