Shopify AI Toolkit is Shopify’s official plugin and agent skill set for Shopify docs, code validation and stores.

The Shopify AI Toolkit gives coding agents Shopify’s developer docs and API schemas, validation of GraphQL queries, Liquid templates and Shopify Extensions against those schemas, and store management through Shopify CLI’s authenticated store context, with you choosing when to run each task (Shopify docs). Shopify publishes it under the MIT license (LICENSE). It needs Node.js 18 or higher.

Shopify recommends the plugin, which bundles everything and updates automatically. The skills route installs the shopify skill, which covers every Shopify developer surface (the GraphQL Admin API, Shopify Functions, Polaris, Liquid, Hydrogen and Shopify CLI) and reads the guidance for a surface only when a task needs it. Earlier per-surface skills such as shopify-admin and shopify-liquid are deprecated (Shopify docs). This listing reflects plugin version 2.1.0 in the repository.

Telemetry is on by default. The README says the skill scripts send usage events to https://shopify.dev/mcp/usage, including search queries, validated code and, when the agent passes it, your most recent message verbatim (truncated to 2,000 characters); on Claude Code a hook can also attach your latest prompt when a Shopify skill activates. To opt out everywhere, Shopify recommends an empty opt-out file; export OPT_OUT_INSTRUMENTATION=true and DO_NOT_TRACK=1 also work where the agent passes your environment through (README, Telemetry):

I installed shopify-admin or shopify-liquid. What now?

Those per-surface skills are deprecated and no longer updated. Shopify’s docs say to remove them with npx skills remove and install the single shopify skill instead.
