Any Agent Skills tool

(all skills, project level)

npx skills add neondatabase/agent-skills -y

One skill only, or a global install:

npx skills add neondatabase/agent-skills -s neon -y
npx skills add neondatabase/agent-skills -y -g

(plugin with the skills and the Neon MCP Server, in a Claude Code session)

/plugin marketplace add neondatabase/agent-skills
/plugin install neon-postgres@neon

Or from the official Claude plugins marketplace, in the terminal:

claude plugin install neon@claude-plugins-official

Update

neon skills update refreshes skills installed with the Neon CLI (CLI reference).

Commands as given in the Neon docs, the Claude Code plugin page and the repository README.

Neon agent skills are Neon’s official skills that teach coding agents Postgres, branching, Auth and Neon services.

Neon agent skills are Neon’s own collection of skills in the Agent Skills format: SKILL.md entry points that give a coding assistant structured context about Neon’s platform, APIs and best practices, from Postgres and Auth to Neon Functions, Object Storage and the AI Gateway (Neon docs). Neon names Cursor, Claude Code and OpenAI Codex among the tools they work with, plus any assistant that supports the format. The source is the neondatabase/agent-skills repository under the Apache 2.0 license; its plugin.json is at version 2.2.0.

The skills in the docs are neon (platform overview, including Claimable Neon when there is no account yet), neon-postgres (an index of Neon Postgres documentation and best practices), neon-postgres-branches (branch types for migrations, schema-only branches and reset-from-parent), neon-postgres-egress-optimizer (diagnosing excessive egress and query overfetching), neon-functions, neon-object-storage, neon-ai-gateway and neon-auth (Managed Better Auth). A companion skill for agent platforms that provision Neon for their users lives in neondatabase/neon-for-agent-platforms.

The editor plugins bundle the core Postgres skills with the Neon MCP Server, which the repository’s mcp.json points at https://mcp.neon.tech/mcp; the README says you are prompted to sign in to Neon with OAuth the first time you use the MCP tools. Neon notes that the plugins do not include the Functions, Object Storage and AI Gateway skills, which you add with npx skills add. When you ask about a topic, a skill fetches the relevant Neon documentation online (Neon docs).

Questions

Are Neon agent skills official?
Yes. Neon documents them on neon.com, and the repository is published under the neondatabase GitHub organization with Neon named as the plugin’s author.
How do I install Neon agent skills in Claude Code?
In a Claude Code session, run /plugin marketplace add neondatabase/agent-skills, then /plugin install neon-postgres@neon. The plugin brings the core skills and the Neon MCP Server configuration.
Do the plugins include every Neon skill?
No. Neon says the editor plugins bundle the core Postgres skill set and MCP integration. For Neon Functions, Object Storage and AI Gateway, run npx skills add neondatabase/agent-skills -y or install those skills by name.
Should I install Neon skills per project or globally?
Project level is the default and suits teams, because the setup can be committed with the project. Pass -g to npx skills add (or --global to neon skills) for a user-level install across all projects.
