Install

Claude Code or OpenCode

(share skills kept in .github/skills/ of the same repository)

# Share skills across different agent configs in the same repo
ln -s ../.github/skills .opencode/skills
ln -s ../.github/skills .claude/skills

GitHub Copilot CLI

(plugins)

# Inside Copilot CLI, run these slash commands:
/plugin marketplace add microsoft/skills
/plugin install deep-wiki@skills
/plugin install azure-skills@skills

Commands as given in the repository README.

Any agent, including Claude Code, Codex and Copilot (skills CLI wizard; pick skills and the target agent)

npx skills add microsoft/skills

The skills CLI installs into Claude Code (.claude/skills/), Codex (.agents/skills/), Cursor, OpenCode, GitHub Copilot and other agents; Microsoft’s README notes skills land in the chosen agent’s directory, such as .github/skills/ for GitHub Copilot.

Microsoft Agent Skills is Microsoft’s official collection of skills for Azure SDK and Foundry work in coding agents.

Microsoft Agent Skills (the microsoft/skills repository) packages skills, custom agents, an AGENTS.md template and MCP configurations for coding agents that work with Azure SDKs and Microsoft Foundry. Microsoft publishes it under the MIT license and marks it a work in progress (README).

The README’s catalog lists more than 170 skills: core tooling skills such as mcp-builder, skill-creator, copilot-sdk and cloud-solution-architect, language-agnostic Foundry skills, and per-language Azure SDK skills for Python (-py), .NET (-dotnet), TypeScript (-ts), Java (-java) and Rust (-rust). Skills are still being added and updated to current SDK patterns.

Two plugins bundle parts of it. deep-wiki generates a repository wiki with Mermaid diagrams, onboarding guides, AGENTS.md and llms.txt through commands such as /deep-wiki:generate; azure-skills brings 35 skills for Azure resource management, diagnostics, cost and deployment (azure-prepare → azure-validate → azure-deploy), triggered by intent through the azure and foundry-mcp MCP servers (README, Plugins). A Skill Explorer lists every skill with its description.

Install only what you need. Microsoft’s README warns: “Loading all skills causes context rot: diluted attention, wasted tokens, conflated patterns. Only copy skills essential for your current project.” The installer wizard lets you pick individual skills.

Questions

What is Microsoft Agent Skills?
Microsoft’s public repository of agent skills, custom agents, an AGENTS.md template and MCP configurations for Azure SDK and Microsoft Foundry development, MIT-licensed, at github.com/microsoft/skills.
How do I install Microsoft’s skills in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add microsoft/skills, choose the skills you need and select Claude Code as the target agent. The skills CLI places them in .claude/skills/.
Should I install all of the skills?
No. Microsoft’s README warns that loading every skill causes context rot and wasted tokens, and says to copy only the skills your current project needs.
What are the deep-wiki and azure-skills plugins?
Installable bundles for Copilot CLI. deep-wiki generates documentation wikis for a codebase; azure-skills adds 35 Azure and Foundry skills driven by the Azure MCP servers.
