MCP Builder skill

Guides building quality MCP servers in Python (FastMCP) or TypeScript.

MCP Builder is Anthropic’s skill for building quality MCP servers.

The MCP Builder skill is a development guide for Model Context Protocol servers that expose external APIs as tools for LLMs. It covers tool design, implementation in Python with FastMCP or in Node/TypeScript, and evaluation of the finished server, for developers wiring their own services into agents. Anthropic publishes it under Apache-2.0 in the example-skills plugin for Claude Code; it is pre-installed in the Claude apps on paid plans and available through the Skills API.
