ChatGPT Pro 200’s current offer includes a lower usage allowance at the same $200 monthly price. OpenAI reopened Pro 200 to new subscriptions on September 29, 2026, alongside the new $500 Pro tier. Its current help page confirms the smaller allowance and a temporary transition for eligible existing subscribers. For people using Work and Codex, the change affects a budget already shared between the two services.

Who keeps the previous allowance temporarily?

An account qualifies if it had an active Pro 200 subscription at any point from September 22, 2026 through 10 a.m. Pacific Time on September 29, 2026.

Eligible subscribers can use the previous included allowance through October 29, 2026 while Pro 200 remains active. After that date, the subscription moves to the lower included allowance. The price remains $200 per month.

OpenAI says affected users will receive an email with additional details. If a subscription ended and the user subscribes again on the same account, the published rule still allows grandfathering when that account met the eligibility window. Keeping the temporary allowance does not add Pro 500 features or Astra Ultrafast.

What the public notice does not quantify

OpenAI explicitly confirms that the new allowance is lower. It does not publish the old and new fixed token allocations or a reduction percentage in the current Pro help article.

That leaves an important gap. The change can accurately be described as a reduction in included usage at an unchanged price. A headline claiming a specific percentage cut would need further evidence.

OpenAI attributes the lower allowance in the new offer to increasingly efficient models. That is the company’s explanation; it is not a published guarantee that every workflow will complete as much work as before.

Work and Codex draw from one allowance

Work and Codex share the usage included with the plan. A long research session in Work can therefore reduce the allowance available to Codex, and coding tasks can reduce what remains for Work.

GPT-6 Pro message limits in Chat are separate. A message-limit warning in Chat and an exhausted Work/Codex allowance describe different constraints.

Pro 100, Pro 200 and Pro 500 currently have no five-hour usage limit in Work and Codex. They still have an included allowance. The absence of the shorter window should not be read as unlimited weekly work. Settings → Usage shows the account’s remaining allowance and reset times.

Our Codex usage guide explains how to read the usage information. The Codex Pro plan listing tracks the subscription rules.

Speed settings can change how quickly the budget runs down

For the same model, OpenAI lists Fast mode at 2.5 times Standard-mode included-allowance consumption. Astra Ultrafast consumes that allowance at eight times the Standard rate.

These are allowance consumption rates, not guaranteed speed improvements. Ultrafast is available among personal Pro tiers only on Pro 500; purchasing credits on Pro 200 does not unlock it at launch.

Model choice, context, reasoning, retrieval, caching and tool use also affect consumption. Comparing two sessions without accounting for those settings cannot establish the size of the subscription reduction.

What to record before October 29

An eligible Pro 200 subscriber can preserve a useful account-level record by noting the notice received, the allowance and reset information shown in Settings → Usage, and the model and speed settings used for representative work.

After the transition, compare similar tasks under similar settings. That comparison can help with a personal plan decision, but it is not a universal token allocation or a controlled benchmark.

For eligible features, additional credits can continue usage after the included allowance is spent. They do not extend every Chat limit. OpenAI’s public comparison says Pro 200 includes more usage than Pro 100 and Pro 500 the most, but does not give enough fixed capacity data to calculate a reliable cost per completed task across the tiers.
